The nonprofit, which has been helping moms and kids since 1866, originally brought poor families on board ships in the summer to escape hot, unsanitary tenements, enjoy the sea breeze for a day and receive medical advice, food, clothing and more. Good Housekeeping helped design this vintage-photo tote honoring that history of kindness, just in time for your own summer beach escapes.
