I shoot a lot, so I go through a lot of ammo. (No, I don’t have any extra I can send you.) One match, in particular, that I still compete in is The Pin Shoot, which calls for ammo in near cubic-foot quantities. FN began producing M16s for the U.S. military in the late 1980s, and since then, has grown to be one of the world’s largest producers of AR-style firearms. In 2014, the company launched the FN 15 series, their first commercially available AR-15s for the civilian market, and FN has continued to innovate on the platform ever since. Besides military-style M16 and M4 clones, the FN 15 series now includes more modern, tactical variants like the TAC, SRP and DMR lines. If you pour over the pages of gun magazines or scour the internet, when it comes to everyday carry (EDC), you’ll find more than enough information on handguns and holsters. I’m not suggesting all this information is good information, just that there’s a lot of it. In most every EDC-type article, you’ll also see a reference to—or at least the encouragement of—carrying a reload. What you don’t see a lot of information on is specifics about how to carry that reload. We had just finished mourning the loss of the Browning Hi-Power when Springfield Armory decided to introduce a new clone of the iconic pistol. Then, FN, the original manufacturer of the Hi-Power, did the classic pistol one better with a reworked design. I’ve run the SA-35 and can only say I am smitten. The only question is: Do we call it a Hi-Power or High Power? There were other new semi-auto pistol happenings: Look for micro-9s that are red-dot ready from H&K, Taurus, Mossberg, SCCY, SIG and others. These compact pistols are excellent for concealed carry. I absolutely love reloading. The pleasure I get from creating my own ammunition has never ceased, even though it’s been three decades since I began diligently rolling my own. And even when the ammunition shelves were bare, I could always head out to the bench and make my own stuff; there wasn’t a worry about having enough ammo on hand for target work, plinking or a hunting trip.
