I’m not talking about the cross-your-legs-and-elbows-on-knees seated position, but one that uses a couple of inexpensive pieces of gear and the backpack that many carry afield. When given the choice, always get as low as possible while shooting. The lower a shooter is to the ground, the more stable they will be. The most stable field position is prone off a bipod, but this is rarely an option when all it takes is a little grass or the smallest undulation in terrain to hide the target from view. DESIGNED AS A COLLABORATION in 1846 between Texas Ranger Capt. Samuel H. Walker and Samuel Colt, the Colt Walker was the largest and most powerful black-powder percussion revolver. Walker was given two of his namesake sixguns by Colt during the Mexican-American War. Walker was killed on Oct. 9, 1847, four days after receiving them. Manufactured for Colt by Eli Whitney Jr., only 1,100 Colt “Whitneyville” Walkers were made, which makes them extremely rare, expensive and collectible. Most were chambered in .44. Samuel Colt commissioned New York engraver Waterman E. Ormsby to etch a scene that would be engraved on the 1847 Colt Walker’s cylinder. It shoots well but sometimes will pump out two rounds instead of one. It only has surface rust in one place: the screw on the grip. The finish on all parts is bright. The pros and cons of appendix carry. BEING CONSTANTLY BOMBARDED with anti-appendix carry propaganda has made me rethink the way I conceal a gun. I have carried appendix for many years and thought it was a good way to have quick access to a carry gun. However, recent discussions have made me think through issues that arise with appendix carry. The most obvious drawback to using this method is that the pistol is positioned precariously close to the groin.
