In a partnership with Blackpoint Tactical, SIG Sauer is offering a series of concealment holsters designed for the new P365. Readers may recognize the brand’s Leather Wing holster and magazine pouches from G&A’s Carry Rig column (Sept. 2015). Blackpoints new appendix-carry holster is called the APX (top, right). It features ride-height adjustability and a removeable strut to tuck the grip of the pistol. The metal spring-clip allows this holster to be worn with or without a belt, allowing a bit more freedom when choosing attire. The APX works equally well when positioned on or behind the hip. JEFF COOPER WROTE for Guns & Ammo beginning with issue No. 1 in 1958. Through the 1960s and ‘70s, the focus of his musings was on handguns and their use. Looking back, his influence of action pistol disciplines, tactics and the development of contemporary handgun and cartridge designs are chronicled in his column “Cooper on Handguns.” Once Cooper began building the Gunsite Academy and its training curriculum, he took a hiatus from writing articles for G&A. LAST FALL I WAS PREPPING my gear for an all-night hog hunt and mounted a Surefire X400V IRc infrared illuminator/laser aiming device on my pistol. Using EOTech PVS-15 night-vision googles, I co-aligned the laser with the red dot sight on my pistol at 15 yards. I then live-fired it at 25 yards and observed a significant impact shift. Scratching my head, I rezeroed at 25 yards and engaged a target at 35 yards, again observing a large point-of-aim (POA)/point-of-impact (POI) shift, but in the opposite direction. Discouraged, I holstered my pistol and vowed to use the zeroed red dot sight, if needed. BELGIAN SAA Q: I have an old single-action six-gun that I inherited from my grandfather. He always told me that it was his uncle Gus Elder’s sidearm from the late 1800s. (Yes, Gus’ mother’s name was Katie, but the movie didn’t do him justice). I have enclosed some pictures for your review. There are no obvious maker’s name stamped on it that I’m familiar with, just the ones on the face of the cylinder and what appears to be a serial number on the bottom of the butt (54XX). AS MUCH AS EVERYONE in the United States’ Special Operations Command (SOCOM) wishes they could be Green Berets, they can now all at least be “quiet professionals ” thanks to the command’s renewed interest in suppressors. SOCOM first attempted to field integrally suppressed upper receiver groups for its AR-pattern rifles back in 2016. Now in its second evolution, the Suppressed Upper Receiver Group (SURG) solicitation serves as an example of what SOCOM has learned from 17 years of war.
