AIMPOINT + GLOCK THE MARCH 2025 ISSUE of Guns & Ammo featured “Superlative,” an article that revealed our first look at the innovative Aimpoint COA red-dot sight and A-CUT mounting interface. The COA and A-CUT were developed in partnership between Aimpoint and Glock, resulting in a one-year exclusivity agreement. On page 53, the last sentence in the first paragraph reads, “Aimpoint and Glock have also indicated that by mid-year 2025, Glock will offer replacement slide assemblies with A-CUT to enable existing owners of specific Glock models to benefit from this revolutionary, collaborative effort.” A similar statement appeared in the top caption on page 55, second sentence. AS THIS COLUMN GOES TO PRESS, the 2025 SHOT Show has just come to an end. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reported that it was attended by 54,000 industry professionals and 2,850 exhibitors. There were 14.1 miles of aisles. It is not open to the public, so I hear the same question from those who were unable to attend: “Did you see anything good, cool, new or amazing?” If I’m being honest — and I always am, even if you see me sometimes write with flowery words to cushion my editorial blows — 95-plus percent of the new guns at SHOT Show are simply variations of existing models, otherwise known as “line extensions.” That’s not necessarily a criticism, just an observation. ONE ITEM OF GEAR I use frequently is a bipod. It’s one of the most overlooked shooting accessories for a rifle. If my shooting position isn’t solid, the results on target are never going to be optimal. Taking some time to analyze and build a good shooting position is one of the most important aspects of becoming a better shooter. Other influences include consumer demand and the effects of increased inflation, just as they always have. Fifty years ago, the average U.S. household income was $13,720. In 2024, the U.S. Census Bureau indicated that it was $75,580 for a two-income household, an increase of 81.85 percent. According to the 1975 Guns & Ammo Annual, the average price of a double-action revolver was $109.77, and $207.52 for a semiautomatic pistol. In 2025, the retail price of a new revolver averages $918.54, and semiautomatic pistols average $839 including tactical firearms, competition pistols, carry pieces and rimfires. SNEAKY PETE holsters are a unique option that supports outside-the-waistband (OWB) carry without attracting the scrutiny that an open-carry holster would. THE NEW .338 Advanced Rifle Cartridge (ARC) exists because, like a handful of other Hornady cartridges, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) identified a need. The first public ARC cartridge that we learned about was the 6mm ARC, featured in Guns & Ammo’s September 2020 issue. The fact is that .338 ARC pre-dates the 6mm. In 2017, the DOD wanted more subsonic accuracy and better terminal performance than what was available, so Hornady started development of its .338. However, the DOD quickly moved on to more pressing matters. Several years later, the folks at Defense got back to their unfinished subsonic business, hence the .338 ARC is now public. FOR SEVERAL YEARS, Guns & Ammo has published its annual “Best States for Gun Owners” rankings. Due to space limitations, I’ve never been able to thoroughly describe each state’s respective laws. Here, I want to examine one of the most anti-gun states in our republic: California. According to the Giffords Law Center, California has the “strongest gun safety laws in the nation.” California gun owners must obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC), which requires passing a written test. An FSC is valid for five years. The state imposes a 10-day waiting period on firearm transfers, but that can be extended to 30 days to gather additional information.
