IN MY LAST YEAR of fashion school back in England, I had the honor of having my collection reviewed by the legendary fashion writer Suzy Menkes. I was hopeless, but not only was she gracious, she later gave me a photo of my clothes, which she featured in The Times. It was the highest compliment an aspiring designer could receive. To this day there's nothing like Suzy's endorsement. FASHION WEEK—or more like fashion month, since it covers four cities in four weeks—seems like forever ago. But one show is still on everyone's lips: Hedi Slimane's sophomore collection for Saint Laurent. While reactions ran the gamut, the show brought back a trend I didn't see coming: grunge. Plaid, leather, biker boots galore! It turns out that a few other shows skewed '90s too, notably Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci and Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs, the latter of whom famously has a history with that aesthetic. (Jacobs's grunge collection for Perry Ellis put him on the fashion map in 1992, but he was ultimately fired because of it.) IT'S TWO MAJOR COMEBACKS in one at Schiaparelli—the historic Paris house has brought the legendary designer Christian Lacroix on board to create a collection for its relaunch during the Paris haute couture shows in July. (Lacroix showed his last collection four years ago, while Schiaparelli has been on hiatus since the 1950s.) In 1966, the photographer William Klein set the fashion world on its ear with his delicious satire, Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? Both scathingly funny and fabulously elegant, the film follows American ingenue-cum-supermodel Polly as she attempts to navigate the madness of Paris's high fashion scene. Here, its star—and former Bazaar model—Dorothy McGowan discusses the film, her career, and the joys of working with Klein. Before there were Campbell's soup cans, there were shoes—lots of them, in Bazaar and elsewhere. Andy Warhol's early illustrations took already fashionable slingbacks, kitten heels, and mules to new heights, sprinkled across white space or bursting from stars. And his stylish sketches went far beyond footwear: The godfather of Pop also drew perfume bottles, jewels, faces, and flowers. More than a half century later, Raf Simons found inspiration in the colorful images for his Fall 2013 collection at Dior, showing dresses and bags stamped with the artist's vintage works. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT WEEKENDS IN BELLPORT Sleeping late, reading the paper on the porch, and watching the light change while my kids swim. We also do a lot of napping, cooking, crabbing, clamming, and playing tennis at the Bellport Country Club, right next to our house. And we take the ferry over to Ho-Hum Beach on Fire Island—a favorite hangout. It's beautiful and has a great boardwalk that goes over the dunes. ON THE MENU I am constantly cooking when we're there. It is rare to spot only half of Proenza Schouler. "We'll take a week off from each other about once a year," says Jack McCollough. "The other 51 weeks we're together." Kristen Wiig would like you to know that she looks fabulous for 72 ("73 in August"). And it's true—she could totally pass for a woman in her 30s. THERE'S ONE THING I don't wear in cold-weather months: skirts. Wool pants, leather leggings, jeans—I stick to anything that (a) doesn't require tights and (b) can easily be worn with ankle boots or tucked into knee-high ones.
