The state of Washington is moving toward banning medicated candies, maybe. In October, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) announced that it would put the kibosh on candied edibles, which it says present a dangerous temptation for kids. “Marijuana products that are especially appealing to children are prohibited,” the LCB declared in October. “Products such as, but not limited to, gummy candies, lollipops, cotton candy, or brightly colored products, are prohibited.” The backlash was fairly swift, understandably, as edibles account for 9 percent of the overall cannabis market in Washington. Where does the Mormon Church, otherwise known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, stand on medical marijuana in Utah? It’s complicated. Officially, the church is anti–Prop. 2, the initiative to make medical pot legal in the Beehive State. But the church has said it would nevertheless support the use of medical cannabis prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a pharmacy. Prop. 2’s more ardent opponents have been instructed by the church to “de-escalate” their opposition. AS STATES AND COUNTRIES are finally legalizing cannabis to be grown and smoked for medical and recreational use, the demand for our beloved plant is exponentially on the rise. Small home grows have morphed into 30,000-square-foot warehouses. Growing mediums are being sold and used in what once was thought to be unimaginable quantities. Nine-year-old Elina Childs told CTV News Channel that it was her dad’s idea to purvey her wares outside of an Edmonton pot shop.
