STRENGTHENING SENIORS A new study suggests that the medicinal use of cannabis by people over the age of 60 correlated with a positive association in improvements. The study examined the participants’ health-related quality of life (HRQL), a measure of the overall quality of physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. A report on the research was published on August 26 in Clinical Gerontologist. Researchers associated with the University of Illinois and the University of Iowa surveyed 139 seniors about medical cannabis who self-reported changes in outcome over a period spanning one year. The research teams found a strong association between the frequency of medical cannabis use and mental and physical improvements. There are some candid moments that we may never learn about when it comes to everyday living in the White House, but former President Jimmy Carter (elected back in 1976) recently revealed that his son smoked weed with Willie Nelson. The medical cannabis industry has thrived ever since the first state legalized it—but a common complaint in some areas is that the medical cannabis product is often too expensive for patients. Regulators in Missouri have spent $1.3 million in court fees to defend themselves against medical cannabis business-owner applicants who were denied applications for a license. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, $1.29 million of that amount comes from fees that medical marijuana patients and business applicants have paid the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services, which runs the medical marijuana program. There have been 853 appeals from rejected applicants against the state, with 785 of them currently unresolved. Initially, there were 2,270 applications to open medical marijuana facilities, but only 348 resulted in a license. “There are businesses across our state ready to get off the ground, and government’s getting in the way and stopping them from doing it,” State Representative Peter Merideth, a St. Louis Democrat and member…
