According to the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Amsterdam, Brouwer is a clear-cut case among painters who smoked hemp mixtures. In June, Statistics Canada revealed new cannabis sales data for the month of April 2023. Total monthly sales in April reached $411.7 million in Canadian dollars—the highest amount recorded for a single month so far since legalization began—and showed that consumers spent 1.3% more on recreational cannabis compared to March 2023 sales. Year-over-year data in comparing sales in April 2022 and April 2023 also showed that cannabis sales increased by 10.3%. British Columbia led April cannabis sales with $68,508, an 8.7% increase from sales in March ($63,049), followed by Ontario (+1.5% sales increase), Saskatchewan (+1.3%), and Alberta (+0.4%). However, other provinces showed a decreased percentage in sales, including Quebec (-4.2%), Nova Scotia (-3.9%), Newfoundland (-3.7%), New Brunswick (-1.7%), Prince Edward Island (-2.1%), and Manitoba (-1.1%). Medical Researchers Aim to Combine Psilocybin and Cannabis Can shrooms and cannabis work together as a therapeutic treatment? CaaMTech, a research company based in Washington state, is working to combine cannabinoids and psilocybin into a single compound for medical use. The company received a patent to support its research on combining psilocybin and cannabinoids on Feb. 10, 2021. In 2022, CaaMTech signed an agreement to carry out structural and chemical analyses to further develop novel compounds designed and synthesized by the late Dr. Alexander Shulgin, known as “the godfather of psychedelics.” Since then, CaaMTech has isolated derivatives of psilocybin, cannabinoids, and terpenes.
