In June, Statistics Canada revealed new cannabis sales data for the month of April 2023. Total monthly sales in April reached $411.7 million in Canadian dollars—the highest amount recorded for a single month so far since legalization began—and showed that consumers spent 1.3% more on recreational cannabis compared to March 2023 sales. Year-over-year data in comparing sales in April 2022 and April 2023 also showed that cannabis sales increased by 10.3%. British Columbia led April cannabis sales with $68,508, an 8.7% increase from sales in March ($63,049), followed by Ontario (+1.5% sales increase), Saskatchewan (+1.3%), and Alberta (+0.4%).
