It takes confidence, courage and a great deal of skill to pull off an Art Deco-inspired interior, but Gold Coast designer Katia Slogrove of GermanCraft Cabinets nailed it in this stunning Brisbane kitchen. Katia’s clients had a long list of wishes for their new kitchen: they wanted a modern Art Deco feel, striking colour, metallic highlights and a sense of glamour. THE CLIENT Number 1 Kentwell Road offers independent accommodation to overseas students, particularly those from Japan. The client requested a redesigned space that would provide an appropriate transitional home for students through the inclusion of design elements inspired by Japanese culture. THE BRIEF The brief called for a redesign that would accommodate the maximum number of students while also allowing space for breakout areas, study rooms and living room facilities. An existing swimming pool at the front of the house was to be transformed into a serene space a lack of usable space needed to be addressed and replaced with more practical areas.
