A traditional 1920s home underwent a full and comprehensive restoration and the end result saw the kitchen come out on top. In a unique turn of events, Designer Kitchens’ clients were seasoned builders themselves. And understandably, their new kitchen was to reflect the same high-quality standards of their own business. Magnificent views of the Aegean define this unique summer home, dubbed Villa Diantha, on the island of Syros, Greece. The owners spend their holidays here together with a constant stream of friends. Entrusting the project’s design to Block722 Architects, the clients requested an unobtrusive refuge that would take advantage of the breathtaking views of Pelagia Bay. The owners of the property, which is set on the kind of stark rocky hillside synonymous with the Greek landscape, sought a design that would gently blend in with traditional Greek architecture yet be totally modern. Asher Abergel’s works are all elements of a greater journey that he undertakes daily to help understand the world around him. Astriking marriage of timber and stone inform the design of this family kitchen in Sydney’s North Bondi. The expansive island dominates the space, while American oak timber slices through the opulent granite benchtop to form a breakfast bar where family and friends can gather. Timber panelling on the kitchen ceiling, in the living area and within the outdoor kitchen echoes the natural aesthetic and links the different spaces. Rich, black-painted glass forms the front of the cabinetry, juxtaposing the organic grain of the timber to dramatic effect.
