It was the unspoiled nature of Talloires that laid the groundwork for this 340-square-meter home owned by design duo Carole and Fabrice Gibert, founders of architecture firm ARCHIDOMO, who also led the project. Located in the Pacific Heights neighbourhood of San Francisco, the Van Natta residence sits at the top of a prestigious 1930’s co-op building. Sprawling over 3,200 sq ft with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, it has sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, taking in the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Coast of Marin. Upon seeing the penthouse unit, American designer Alison Pickart immediately knew that she wanted to keep the classic architectural detailing to be true to the building and this particular property within the building. Three years ago I visited the Soulages Museum at Rodez, and ever since I have always paid attention to Pierre Soulages's exhibitions. I am so impressed by Soulages’ avant-garde creations and conceptual vision. His vision of the black abstract gestural painting has inspired many artists and designers worldwide. In the beginning, I did not understand his paintings, but over time, every time I see his works, I feel the depth and meaning more. During the pandemic, a lot of exhibitions have been postponed. Therefore, I was delighted and surprised when I heard that Lévy Gorvy was presenting Pierre Soulages: Outrenoir and REVEAL Soulages 1953 in Hong Kong.
