• In a reversal of the usual procedure, Del Baxter, president of the California Roadster Association, has converted his hot rod from a track-job back into a useful and appealing street pickup. The car was one of the first that ran in competition at Carrell Speedway when it opened at Gardena, California, in 1946. Now, Del leaves his Oldsmo-bile “88” at home and takes the pickup on his frequent hunting and fishing excursions into the rough-country. Clocked at 113.06 mph, S.C.T.A. 1946, the car is equipped with a ’46 Mercury engine with ⅛” stroke, Sharp heads and manifold, Harman-Collins cam, and Kong ignition.
