After building a set of headers for his ’59 Ford pickup, Gery Harkins of Madera, California, developed a neat quickie toovercome the problem of collectors. Following is a step-by-step rundown on howGery made use of a few pieces of tubingand an oil filter case top to manufacturethe simple, yet effective, system. Upon completion of the headers, the outlet pipes are clamped together (a largehose clamp will work) and are then weldedtogether (A) along the outside at leastfour inches up the header. A diamondshaped piece of 14-gage steel (B) is thenfabricated and welded into place to fill inthe gap at the center of the pipes. Beforeproceeding, be sure that the welds are allair (exhaust) tight. Wanted: MG Advice. What motor oil do you recommend for my MG 1100sports sedan? I have been told to use10W-30 or straight grade 30. R. L. Santa Barbara, Calif. Anybody who tells you to use a 10W-30 motor oil can’t be too hip about MG’s.The factory doesn’t recommend it, andneither do we. IT’S NO SNAP Dear Don: For the second time I’ve snapped a valve stem in my ’55 Chevy 265. Some attempt to lure more spectators through the gatesby titling their races “national” events.
