Inga Sempé is reluctant to define her style. “I’m interested in objects – if they are clever or different,” is all she will say. She does, however, describe herself – with a twinkle in her eye – as a “typical Parisian, even typically French.”
An adolescence spent trawling the Porte de Vanves flea markets on the outskirts of Paris is what sparked Inga’s fascination with objects. “What I liked about the flea markets was the surprise,” she explains – old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, all jostling together among the trash and treasure. That fascination, which grew into a career, has seen her design her own treasures: lighting, textiles, furniture and homewares for brands such as Cappellini, Alessi and Ligne Roset.
