Ending the yearlong freeze in defence exchanges after Doklam, Xi Jinping sent a fast-rising PLA general, Lt Gen. Liu Xiaowu, as head of a 10-member delegation to New Delhi last week. Liu is among the top-ranked ‘gen next’ PLA generals (born in the 1960s) and is currently the deputy commander of the Western Theatre Command that borders India. Raza retrospective at Mumbai’s Piramal Museum of Art goes further than most exhibitions to contextualise the painter’s work with archival material relating to his life in India and France and his dialogues with other artists. On June 28, at a function to mark the 10th death anniversary of Prem Bhai, a revered local Christian missionary, Pema Khandu announced that his government would repeal the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, passed in 1978 to check proselytisation. The chief minister said that the law restrains freedom of religion and has no place in a secular India. “In today’s context, this act doesn’t have any meaning for Christians, indigenous faiths or any other religion. I came from the telecommunication business before they had started getting into watches, and Swatch had already started on a project to add messages and other such features in their watches.
