Christina, what does MadeMeasure do? We are purveyors of premium handles for interior projects, and makers of leather goods for the built space. You can always trust the Swedes to be ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to design. One collaboration, Folkhem Trä, is creating housing near Stockholm that produces far fewer carbon emissions than traditional construction. How? By building in wood. One of its developments, Strandparken, has outer walls covered in cedar shingles while the interiors, from the floors to the benchtops, are also made from timber. Wood improves the acoustics throughout the building and, when it ages, can also be sanded back and refinished rather than replaced. Renowned for its wines, the city of Bordeaux is also home to some of the most graceful streets in France, with many classical buildings offering 18th-century architectural facades. In one of its exclusive suburbs lies the magnificent home of Ludivine Degas and her family (pictured above). cauliflower, labne & harissa salad SERVES 4 PREP & COOKING TIME 40 minutes 1 large head cauliflower, cut into florets 2 tbsp harissa paste 3 tbsp olive oil Celtic sea salt and ground pepper 250g cherry tomatoes, halved 1 x 400g tin chickpeas, drained and rinsed 1 cup rocket leaves 80g labne Lemony Tahini Dressing (see recipe below) A handful of mint leaves (optional) 1. Completely renovating your family home by gutting the existing dwelling and adding another floor, all within a 12-week deadline. Impossible? Not according to Hannah and Clyde Daish. The couple did all this with the creation of their dream home in the Northern Beaches suburb of Narrabeen. Hannah and Clyde purchased the house, originally a timber-framed fibro cottage, in 2009.The pair could see the cottage’s potential but the attraction was more the location: smack bang in the middle of the street with the beach at one end and the lake at the other, perfect for their family of then five. 1. Observe light conditions in the space you wish to place a plant. Is there direct or indirect sunlight? Is it a bright or shaded position? These conditions can change in your space during the year. At home, we have specific winter and summer locations for our plants based on light availability. In summer, we tend to move plants off window ledges and away from the harsh sun, whereas in winter, we keep them close to light sources. 2. Just like us, plants get thirsty. As a general rule in summer, they enjoy more water and in winter, less. One of the benefits of renting is that sometimes, you can upsize your space. This was the case for Allan Torp, the talent behind design and lifestyle blog Bungalow5.dk. In 2015, he decided to sell his home so he could travel more – since he was now renting, he could live in a larger apartment. BLOODY MARIAS MAKES 1.5L PREPARATION TIME 10 minutes 750g roma tomatoes, roughly chopped 2 Lebanese cucumbers, peeled, roughly chopped 1 tsp salt 250ml (1 cup) chilled tequila 180ml (¾ cup) lemon juice ¼ tsp Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce ¼ tsp smoked Spanish paprika (optional) 8 small stalks celery Ice cubes, to serve 1.
