Back in 2016, Tijana and Matthew Papandrea found themselves outgrowing their living arrangements. With a young family, they were ready to commit to designing and building a new home which catered to that lifestyle. What was your first property flip? I turned around an apartment in Bellevue Hill, NSW, that I bought for $970,000, and in three months I made close to $280,000. I didn’t sell it straightaway because of capital gains, which is something you have to worry about. Do you have a starting point for every project? I always begin with a worst-case-scenario budget. Creating a home for your family is a primal desire, and Abby Summerton and Scott Inness have done just that with this luminous terrace renovation in Sydney’s inner south. As owners of building firm Kinn Construction, they did much of the project’s heavy lifting, metaphorically at least. Laurel Canyon’s Wonderland Park Avenue community of 67 homes was developed in the 1950s by a group of friends that included well-known American landscape designer Garrett Eckbo, who master-planned the properties by immersing them in nature.
