Crochet charts are a love/hate thing. Some crocheters insist upon them; others want just the written pattern, thankyouverymuch. We have found the perfect project to explore both options. There’s no way around it. Before you begin crocheting anything, you are going to have to make color decisions. It’s always a safe bet to simply use the color shown in the pattern. Often, the designer’s color choice was deliberate, selected with the finished project in mind. I once designed a woman’s short-sleeved sweater with intricate texture. I chose a light, neutral, solid yarn for the project, to showcase the texture. I later saw the design worked in dark, variegated colors; the texture was obliterated in the busyness of the yarn. Of course, I don’t want to tell people how to crochet my designs, but I would like to offer suggestions for successful completion of the design.
