Nintendo has followed in the footsteps of Skylanders and Disney Infinity by releasing its own range of collectable toy figurines based on the heroes from their many amazing game series. As you might expect, the figurines look amazing and it’s kind of cool having these legendary heroes lined up on your game shelf. However, they do function in a different way to those previously mentioned games. For starters, there is no portal to place a figurine on. Instead, the Wii U’s GamePad and the New 3DS have built in near-field communication technology, which allows them to sense the figurines and bring them – with their special unlockable items, upgrades, weapons and bonuses – into the game world.
