Australia’s Carter Thompson made a big impact on his first ride in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship (WorldSSP300), securing a podium on debut. The 16-year-old from suburban Newcastle had been drafted in by Fusport-RT Motorsport by SKM-Kawasaki in July to replace the injured Petr Svoboda for rounds at Most and Portimao. Less than two months after announcing he’d be retiring from MotoGP, Aleix Espargaro has revealed that he’ll stay connected to grand prix racing beyond this season. The Spanish veteran, currently riding for Aprilia Racing, has signed with Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) as a test rider for 2025. The 34-year-old will join HRC’s existing test rider, Stefan Bradl, in continuing development of the Honda RC213V. This year’s International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) will see the return of a full Australian squad after last year’s edition saw only the Women’s World Trophy team represent. That means the 2024 ISDE, which will be held in Sallida, Spain, on 14-19 October, will see Australian teams racing for victory in the Senior, Junior and Women’s World Trophy categories. Simon Crafar, the informative pit reporter for MotoGP’s International Programme Feed since 2018, will hang up his microphone at the end of this year to take on the role of Chairman of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel. The New Zealander, a former GP rider and 500cc race winner, will replace Freddie Spencer, who’s held the Chairman’s position since it was created in 2019. The Chairman of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel is nominated by the teams’ association (IRTA), with their appointment approved by the Permanent Bureau. Following its reveal back in January, Kawasaki’s hydrogen-powered, internal combustion engine concept recently had its first public demonstration run. In what Kawasaki are claiming as a world first for a mass-production motorcycle manufacturer, the run was conducted at the Suzuka circuit in Japan, as part of the annual Suzuka 8 Hours race in July. While it’s built by Kawasaki, the concept is actually a product of the ‘HySE’ (Hydrogen Small mobility & Engine technology) hydrogen engine development team; a Japanese industry co-operative that includes Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Toyota, as well as Kawasaki. Focussed on hydrogen technology, HySE is actively conducting research on hydrogen engines, hydrogen filling systems and fuel supply systems in order to produce hydrogen-powered small mobility vehicles, including motorcycles, in the future. Prima Pramac Racing have announced they will end their 20-year collaboration with Ducati Corse at the end of the 2024 MotoGP season to run Yamaha’s YZR-M1 in a “multi-year” deal with Yamaha Motor Corporation (YMC). Effective from 2025, the upcoming switch will see the return of a Yamaha satellite team to the MotoGP grid for the first time since 2021.
