While Bonovo Action BMW will end their time in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at the end of this season, one of their riders has secured a ride for 2025. Garrett Gerloff has signed with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing for next year, replacing Tito Rabat. Additionally, Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, who are one of the independent teams on the WorldSBK grid, will become the ‘official’ Kawasaki entry next season. This follows the Kawasaki Racing Team’s rebranding as Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, which will come into effect in 2025. Gerloff will go to Kawasaki Puccetti Racing after two seasons with Bonovo Action BMW and three with GRT Yamaha WorldSBK before that. Is there room in the LAMS market for another sportsbike? Aprilia thinks so, having just launched their RS 457 in Australia. Announced last year and previewed a few months back, the RS 457 is a premium product for the learner rider - and priced accordingly - but it justifies its pricing with a lot of features for the money. Aprilia say the RS 457 has been created for a new, younger generation of riders, hence the LAMS eligibility. The new model just scrapes into being learner legal, though, as its 457cc parallel twin delivers 35kW in a machine weighing just 175kg wet (159kg dry). A model that Royal Enfield are calling ‘the return of the real roadster’, the Guerrilla 450 takes the engine and several of the cycle parts from the Himalayan 450 and wraps them in a new skin that has little of the “retro” DNA that’s defined many of Royal Enfield’s past models. The Ducati Ride Experience (DRE) adventure travel programme for Ducatisti that’s been a hit in Europe is coming to Australasia, with the very first ‘Ducati Xpeditions’ ride event to be held in New Zealand this December. The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (ATC) has released its list of riders that have been invited to take part in selection for the 2025 edition of the junior development series. The selection event at Sepang will see 100 invited riders from Asia, the subcontinent and Oceania pared back to 20, plus reserves, for next year’s ATC. A comprehensive promotion campaign, in collaboration with key partners and circuits, saw 400 teenage riders from nearly 20 countries apply to the ATC this year. Analysis of their applications by the ATC Selection Committee saw this number cut to 100 for the selection event, which will be held at the Sepang kart track on 29-30 October. A Ducati with a strong Aussie connection recently sold at auction in the UK, setting a new record price for the marque, as well as one of the higher prices achieved by any motorcycle at auction. The bike in question, a Ducati Desmosedici GP7 from the 2007 MotoGP season, was joined by a Desmosedici GP3 from 2003 and other machines with racing pedigree at the Iconic Auctioneers sale in the UK, held on 25 August as part of the Silverstone Festival. What made the GP7 special, apart from its record-setting price, is that it was one of the bikes ridden by Casey Stoner to the 2007 MotoGP World Championship – his and Ducati’s first. Even before his first year in the Moto3 World Championship has been completed, Australia’s Jacob Roulstone has signed on for a second season in the junior GP category, inking a new deal with Red Bull GasGas Tech3 in August.
