The Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) will welcome a new team in 2025, with ‘Superbike Advocates Racing’ to join the grid. The team is spearheaded by Lecha ‘Lee’ Khouri, the founder and CEO of Sydney-based Supercar Advocates and the global Fenlan Group, in partnership with former World Supersport rider and Australian Formula Xtreme Supersport Champion, Mitchell Pirotta of On Two Wheels Motorcycles. Superbike Advocates Racing will run Ducati Panigale V4 Rs, with three-time ASBK Champion, Glenn Allerton, as lead rider. Allerton will be the team’s sole rider initially, with plans to expand to two riders in 2026. After securing a slot on the 2025 FIM MXGP calendar several months back, the dates for next year’s Australian round have now been confirmed. The first Australian Motocross Grand Prix since 2001 will be held in Darwin on 19-21 September, with limited-edition three-day ‘Hot Pass’ tickets now available. The Australian round will serve as the season finale for 2025, with MXGP and MX2 categories racing, as well as the FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship (WMX) and local support classes. Critics of Toprak Razgatlioglu’s departure from Yamaha to join the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team this year are eating humble pie after he won the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK). The 28-year-old from Turkey secured the championship in Race 1 of the final round at Jerez. It’s Razgatlioglu’s second WorldSBK title and the first for BMW. BMW made their WorldSBK debut in 2009 and stayed for five seasons before exiting at the end of 2013. In that time, they won 12 races, all of which came in the final two years, delivered by Sylvain Guintoli, Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies. The FIM MotoGP World Championship has released its provisional calendar for 2025, with a total of 22 rounds in 18 countries. If all rounds go ahead as scheduled, it’ll make next year’s MotoGP season the longest ever. While made up of mostly familiar rounds and venues, the 2025 MotoGP calendar sees the return of a European track, the debut of an all-new venue and a new location for the season opener. Next year’s Australian round is scheduled for 17-19 October - an almost identical position to this year – and is in the second group of flyaways that includes the Japanese, Indonesian and Malaysian GPs. GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK will take an unchanged rider lineup into the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship, with both Remy Gardner and Dominique Aegerter resigning for next season. For both riders, the new deal will mark their third season with the satellite team. For Gardner, the re-signing ends speculation over a return to MotoGP following his participation in three rounds this season. Two of those were as a replacement for the injured Alex Rins (at the German and British GPs), while the third was as a wildcard for Yamaha at the Japanese GP. Australia’s Daniel Sanders has started his time with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in the best way possible, winning the Rallye du Maroc in Morocco. Both Sanders and Luciano Benavides joined the team on the eve of the October event, as part of KTM’s restructuring of their rally raid squad ahead of next year’s Dakar Rally. That restructuring has included parting ways with Toby Price and (apparently) Mattias Walkner, as well as folding both the Husqvarna and GasGas teams, which Benavides and Sanders rode for at this year’s Dakar. At the Rallye du Maroc, KTM entered a three-rider squad, with Sanders and Benavides joining incumbent Kevin Benavides (Luciano’s brother) in the factory team. Two championships were alive coming into the 2024 Qatar Airways Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, so there was still a lot to play for in Moto2 and MotoGP. And while there were some solid favourites in each class coming into the round, the local crowd had Aussie representation to cheer for across the board. They also had much better weather conditions than last year – at least after Friday! This year’s GP weekend was almost the reverse of 2023, when rain and strong winds led to the grand prix being moved to the Saturday and the Sprint race abandoned after it had been rescheduled to Sunday.
