CFMoto have expanded their range, releasing the limited-edition 500SR Voom. Combining retro styling elements already seen on the XO Papio Racer with high-tech engineering, the 500SR Voom is a full-power sportsbike that’s limited to just 90 units for Australia. Prior to its local release in May, the 500SR Voom set a new class record on the salt at Lake Gairdner Speed Week. In the 500P-P category, a stock 500SR Voom set a top speed of 227.42km/h (141.31mph), easily beating the previous record of 199.14km/h (123.73mph). The Voom is powered by a high-revving 499cc DOHC inline four, with outputs of 58kW at 12,500rpm and 49Nm at 10,000rpm, 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 220km/h. To inaugurate their new premises in the western Sydney suburb of Seven Hills, Manshed Auctions are hosting a special two-day auction this June that’ll be essential for collectors of classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and parts. The auction comprises almost 700 lots, mostly C1920s and 1930s parts, but with a lot of Knucklehead and Panhead parts, plus some Shovelhead bits, too. The haul includes engines, gearboxes and frames, fuel tanks, handlebars, front ends, wheels, engine parts, gauges and lights, right down to spark plugs and tank decals. Harley-Davidson’s Custom Kings 2025 competition has been run and won, with John Cage from the ACT making it back-to-back victories in the factory-authorised custom build competition that’s open to Harley owners and builders from Australia and New Zealand. Cage won last year’s ‘Number One’ competition with an FXR-based build. His Custom Kings winner was also based on an FXR, this time featuring a Twin Cam engine conversion amongst many other changes. Following on from the Breakout Boss custom competition in 2022-23, the Number One competition expanded the entry criteria from the Softail Breakout power cruiser to include Dynas, FXRs, V-Rods, Sportsters, the big Touring models and trikes. Australia’s Carter Thompson has taken a breakthrough win in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. The 17-year-old from NSW overcame a sub-optimal qualifying and long lap penalty in Race 2 of the opening round at Jerez to achieve the victory. Coming into this year’s Red Bull Rookies Cup, Thompson’s best result had been a pair of sixth place finishes at Aragon last year. In 2023, his first year in the junior development championship, Thompson’s best race result was tenth. Peter Stevens, one of the most familiar names in the Australian motorcycling industry, has entered voluntary administration, with KordaMentha Restructuring appointed to turn the business around. The administration does not affect the motorcycle importation (Peter Stevens Importers) or accessories wholesale (Monza Imports) side of the business, which separated from the retail arm (Peter Stevens Motorcycles) in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Peter Stevens was established in 1970 by the Chiodo brothers – Vince, Steve and Peter – and became one of the major retailers in Melbourne’s famous Elizabeth Street motorcycle precinct. Later adding importation and accessories wholesaling to the business, Peter Stevens also expanded its retail operations from Victoria into South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia. After transforming from the Kawasaki Racing Team to the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team (BbKRT) ahead of this year’s Motul FIM Superbike Word Championship (WorldSBK), the bimota team have announced they will retain their current rider lineup of Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani for the 2026 season. Bimota’s return to WorldSBK this year (after more than a decade away from the championship) has yet to deliver consistently strong results. At time of writing, neither Lowes nor Bassani have tasted victory or even visited the podium on the bimotaframed, Kawasaki-engined KB998 Rimini. Lowes’s best finish has been a fourth in Race 1 at Most, while Bassani’s best was a fifth in Race 2 at Assen.
