Suzuki are set to join the retro naked bike category that’s currently occupied by the likes of the Kawasaki Z900RS, Yamaha XSR900, Triumph’s Modern Classics, the Benelli Leoncino, and most of the Royal Enfield range. The ‘GSX-8T’ and ‘GSX-8TT’ are new models, using the engine, frame, brakes and suspension from the current GSX-8S naked, but with classically-inspired features, like a circular headlight, re-shaped tank and unique seats. After achieving a podium on his debut in the World Supersport 300 Championship (WorldSSP300) last year, Australia’s Carter Thompson recently secured his first win in the category, making history in the process. The victory, in Race 1 of the Emilia-Romagna round at Misano in June, was the first for an Aussie in WorldSSP300 since the category started in 2017. Thompson had completed a handful of WorldSSP300 rounds last year as a fill-in rider before landing a full-time ride with the successful Belgian team, MTM Kawasaki, this season. In the wake of May’s announcement that Peter Stevens Motorcycles had gone into administration, it’s been revealed that the motorcycling retailer will survive – in part – under two new owners. The majority of stores will continue trading after being purchased by Joe Rascal Group and Motorcycle Holdings, but five dealerships have closed. Of the fallen empire’s retail outlets, Joe Rascal Group has acquired the Harley Heaven stores in Ringwood, Dandenong and the Melbourne CBD, as well as Peter Stevens Ducati in South Melbourne. Seven stores were acquired by Motorcycle Holdings, including the Peter Stevens dealerships in Dandenong and Adelaide, Harley Heaven in Sydney (Tempe), Penrith, Adelaide and Perth, plus Savage Motorcycles in Perth. Michelin will become the Official Tyre Supplier for the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in 2027, ending a partnership with Pirelli that has lasted for more than two decades. A five-year deal will see the international production bike category race on Michelins until at least 2031. The change will also apply to the World Supersport Championship and Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship that currently race on Pirellis. The all-new World Sportbike Championship that’s set to replace the World Supersport 300 class in 2026 will also run on Michelin tyres from 2027. WorldSBK’s adoption of Michelin tyres in 2027 coincides with MotoGP’s switch to Pirelli rubber (from Michelin) in 2027. The 2025 Bulli Antique Motorcycle Weekend is fast approaching. Organised by the Antique Motorcycle Club of America – Australia Chapter (AMCA), the event is open to all motorcycles 35 years old (pre-1990) and older, with the theme for this year being ‘Period Modified’ motorcycles. To be held on 22-23 August at the Bulli Showgrounds (20 min north of Wollongong), the 2025 Bulli Antique Motorcycle Weekend is much more than just a bike show, with an auction, motorcycle-only swap meet, demonstrations and tech seminars. There will also be AMCA judging and awards, club displays and live entertainment.
