Response to the ‘Harley Collection’ auction conducted by Manshed Auctions on 28-29 June exceeded expectations, with a 100 per cent clearance rate and some outstanding prices achieved by not just the complete motorcycles in the auction, but also the classic Harley engines, frames and other rare parts. The collection, acquired over 15 years by the sole vendor, was made up almost entirely of pre-Shovelhead bikes and parts. There were a handful of newer Harley spares on offer, plus some J.A.P. parts for speedway bikes and a pair of Australian-made Howard v-twin engines. Big ticket items included a 1947 EL Knucklehead that had been imported to Australia and restored here, but previously spent 30+ years on display in the USA. The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) has released their provisional calendar for 2026, which features 12 rounds, all on familiar circuits from this year’s championship. As in 2025, the World Supersport Championship (WorldSSP) will race as the undercard at all 12 rounds, with other support categories at selected European rounds. The 2026 WorldSBK season will get underway in February and conclude in October, with the mid-season break in August. Australia continues to be the only WorldSBK round held outside Europe and the UK, and will once again host the season opener at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. After showcasing the future in 2023 and 2024 with the bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup, this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will celebrate the past, with the Superbike Masters to feature in the National Support Paddock. It’ll be a homecoming of sorts, as the historic racers supported the very first Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in 1989. Open to Period 6 (1983-1990) and Period 7 (1991-1999) historic race bikes, the Superbike Masters will provide a blast from the past over three races, with the likes of Suzuki GSX-R 1100, Honda VFR 750, Yamaha FZR 1000 and other classics in action. Suzuki are celebrating 40 years of their iconic GSX-R sportsbike in 2025, unveiling an updated edition of the GSX-R1000 that honours the model’s four decades of history, while also looking to the future and “embracing bold innovation”. While the GSX-R name has been around for 40 years, the GSX-R1000 dates back to 2001. The foundation for Suzuki’s success in the FIM Endurance Wolrd Championship (that includes 15 titles), the GSX-R1000 has also been victorious in superbike and superstock competition. In its newest form, the GSX-R1000R remains street-legal, but can be easily converted to track-ready specification. The 40th Anniversary GSX-R1000R features revised engine internals, a new cylinder head design and slimmer muffler, plus new and updated electronics. Dorna has released their provisional MotoGP calendar for 2026. Broadly similar to this year’s schedule, the key addition is a round in Brazil, replacing Argentina in the first group of flyways. MotoGP’s return to Brazil, at the Goiania circuit (aka Autodromo Internacional Ayrton Senna), comes more than two decades after the last MotoGP round was held in the South American country. Brazil’s on-again, off-again connection to MotoGP started at Goiania in 1987. Wayne Gardner was the inaugural winner in the 500cc class, with Dominique Sarron victorious in the 250cc class, while the 125cc class did not compete. GRT Yamaha’s Remy Gardner has inked a new two-year deal that will see him remain with the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team through to the conclusion of the 2027 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) season. Announced on the eve of the Hungarian WorldSBK round in July, the new deal will extend the Aussie’s tenure with the Italian team to five years. Gardner made the move to WorldSBK from MotoGP in 2023 and has stood on the podium twice, with third-place finishes in 2024 and 2025, both at Assen. The former Moto2 World Champion has finished inside the top five on ten occasions from a total of 87 starts in WorldSBK at time of writing. Set alight by the dominance of Marc Marquez on the factory Ducati Desmosedici, the 2025 MotoGP World Championship has been a dramatic, action-packed affair so far.
