A university in Brisbane has launched a plan to help keep students calm during mid-year exams by encouraging them to jump on trampolines, play ping-pong and cuddle puppies. President, Phil Johnson, from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Guild, confirmed they wanted to support students during exam timing and said, “It’s proven that holding a baby animal reduces heart rate and stress... We’re here to help and interact with the students, and it allows them to let their guard down a little bit.” Other activities introduced to the campus include massage tables, pancake stalls and ball pits. An American development team have proposed a way to transform the crowded underground Pennsylvania Station in New York by building a 365 metre thrill ride on top. The Halo would feature 11 gondolas that would free-fall towards the ground at 160 kilometres per hour, as well as, a transparent LED pixel screen to display weather, sport and environmental updates. President of Brooklyn Capital Partners, Alexandros Washburn, explained visitors would be able to experience “New York City in an unforgettable way” with the company looking to charge around $35 per ticket. A new record has been set in Naples, Italy, for the World’s Longest Pizza. Certified by the team at Guinness World Records, the pizza measured over 1.8 kilometres long and required 400 people to make. Beating the previous record over two metres, the ingredients for the Neapolitan-style pizza were sourced locally from the Campania region which is often referred to as the “home of pizza”. Stretching along the Italian coast of Naples, the giant pizza was created using over two tonnes of flour, more than two tonnes of mozzarella cheese, 1,600 kilograms of tomato sauce, 200 litres of olive oil and 30 kilograms of fresh basil. In a town northwest of Madrid in Spain called Torrelodones, locals have been campaigning to remind people to clean up after their pooping pooches by placing a giant inflatable piece of dung in the town square. Residents have been encouraged to take photos with the blowup poo and share them on social media to further raise awareness. One local town hall spokesperson joked that the “public awareness campaign launched byTorrelodones council in the hope of making residents collect dog excrement has achieved its greatest success.” It is estimated that the community has an approximately 6,000 dogs making for quite a lot of poop. A New Zealand chocolatier has introduced an chocolate made by using beef. Reports claim the Auckland-based company, Devonport Chocolates has released the eyebrow-raising product which transforms lean cuts of beef into so-called “chocolate butter”. Described as being reminiscent of Turkish Delight, the meat flavour is supposedly unrecognisable within the chewy confectionary. Senior scientist Mustafa Farouk, who works for the AgResearch institute, teamed up with Devonport Chocolates to investigate how the nutritional qualities of meat could be incorporated into other food items. Farouk said, “You’re not able to see the meat fibres themselves, and because of the nature of the chocolate itself, you are not able to get the taste of the meat.” It is believed the final product has a protein content of around 25 per cent. A new office building in Hong Kong has recently been designed entirely of glass by Netherlands-based architects, MVRDV . Measuring more than 193,000 square feet, even the desks and floors are made from glass. The firm is known for their see-through projects, such as, a fully transparent kitchen, that affects the visitors or employees sense of space. MVRDV co-founder , Winy Maas, explained, “W e are moving into a transparent society , businesses are becoming more open with the public, and people care more about what goes on behind closed doors... This year, the World Custard Pie Championship was hosted in Coxheath, near Maidstone in England, with the Custardteers deemed the winning team with 59 points.
