Designer fashion brand, Gucci, has released a pair of sneakers intentionally created to look worn-out and dirty. The ‘Screener’ sneakers, priced at around $870, were inspired by 1970’s basketball shoes and are available in three different styles - if you can afford them! Gucci’s website describes the sneakers as, “the multicolour Screener sneakers - named for the defensive sports move - reference the colours of the House Web stripe, treated for an all-over distressed effect.” The shoes are accompanied with special instructions for cleaning any “real” dirt off them and also feature a high-top variety which costs $930. The scruffy-looking shoes have sparked debate across social media with one person commenting, “Some people have more money than sense. It’s ridiculous.”…

A house in California resembling a colourful tribute to The Flintstones is at the centre of a legal battle. Inspired by Fred and Wilma Flintstone’s home from the 1960’s cartoon, the quirky house has been declared a public nuisance by officials in the San Francisco Bay area following owner, Florence Fang, adding more and more decorations to the property’s exterior. Fang has been accused of violating local codes and creating a “highly visible eyesore” after installing dinosaur sculptures in her backyard and a sign featuring Fred Flintstone’s favourite catchphrase “Yabba-Dabba-Doo.” The town of Hillsborough filed an official complaint when Fang refused to comply with orders to remove some of the over-the-top features. However, the media mogul owner is determined, saying that she “will fight to save the Flintstone House”.…

Scientists in southwest China’s Yunnan province have cloned what they refer to as the “Sherlock Holmes of police dogs” in hopes to reduce time and costs associated with training police dogs. The dog, named Kunxun, was created by the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company, the Yunnan Agricultural University and the Ministry of Public Security. Sinogene’s deputy general manager, Zhao Jinping, explained that the company aims to achieve “volume production” of cloned police canines, however, admitted the finances involved remain a challenge. Kunxun will undergo extensive training including crowd control and searching for evidence. Training a police dog usually takes about five years and can cost up to $100,000 with no guarantee of success.…

A fisherman recently discovered a giant sunfish washed ashore in South Australia believing it to be fake. The creepy-looking creature was found at the mouth of the Murray River by Steven Jones with his partner, Linette Grzelak, uploading pictures on social media site, Facebook. The ocean sunfish belongs to the mola mola species and is the rarest of its kind in South Australian waters. The fish was estimated to be around 1.8 metres in length, but, according to the South Australian Museum, the species can reportedly grow to over three metres long and four metres wide. National Parks South Australia referred to the animal as the “the world’s largest bony fish and can weigh more than a car” and suggested the sunfish was just “passing through rather than being a…

A talented racing pigeon has sold for a record-breaking $1.4 million at a recent online auction. The pricey pigeon, named Armando, was sold by Belgian breeder, Joel Verschoot, and organised by the website PIPA: Pigeon Paradise. According to the website, Armando is allegedly the “best long distance pigeon of all time” with $1.4 million being the highest ever paid for a racing pigeon. Officials were shocked by the size of the final bid and claimed, “this type of champion is rarely offered for sale.” The previous record-holding pigeon representing the highest amount purchased for, was a bird named Nadine who sold for over $450,000 in 2017.…

The force is strong in France following the French Fencing Federation officially recognising ‘lightsaber duelling’ as a competitive sport. The iconic weapon, made famous from the popular Star Wars films, has been allocated the same status as other blades allowing competitors to hone their Luke Skywalker skills. Two American men recently set a Guinness World Record after successfully travelling on all of Boston’s subway train lines in the fastest time ever. Guinness World Records confirmed the record was achieved by Alex Coy and Dominic DiLuzio with the official ride time declared as being seven hours, 29 minutes and 46 seconds.
