Multiple factors including water flow, the weather, temperature and the perfect amount of sunlight resulted in the cascading water resembling an erupting volcano. Often shaded by clouds, the wonder only occurs a few times every February. A representative from the National Park Service explained, “This unique lighting effect happens only on evenings with a clear sky when the waterfall is flowing.
