Move over grey, there’s a new colour in town and it is beautiful blue. From shimmering petrol shades (see the A/W 2017 Trends report on page 83) to peacock, navy and Air Force in this month’s houses, blue is enjoying an interiors moment. Having just painted a bedroom a dark greeny-blue – with some trepidation, I might add – I can see why the colour is so popular. Strawberry, blueberry, cherry and plum – this season’s tastiest palette takes inspiration from the hedgerow, mixing berry shades that are too good to eat. On the catwalk, Elie’s Saab models swished down the runway in blackcurrant-hued frocks. Meanwhile, the homeware front is jam-packed with plum, cherry and mulberry accessories. Match a swipe of Charlotte Tilbury’s Glastonberry lipstick (get it?) with Love Your Home’s currant-coloured sofa. Background If you’ve ever watched a juggler whirling a set of balls, where they sometimes move so quickly, they almost appear to be hanging motionless in the air, you’ll immediately get the inspiration behind the T1’s design. UPDATED SHAKER Shaking up an old faithful is best done with caution – such design is revered for good reason. Shakerstyle kitchens are the exception; it’s their receptiveness to constant reinvention that arguably keeps the Shaker door perennially ahead of trends. One of the most powerful ways to refresh a Shaker scheme is to rethink classic handles. Try a modern inset design or go handleless. Push-touch or electronic opening hinges allow the chunkyframed door to shine, while providing just enough detail to prevent a descent into flat-fronted minimalism. CLASS ACT While the word iconic is often used to describe a brand, it’s rarely justified. Not in the case of Liberty Fabrics and Anthropologie, however, which are both worthy of the adjective for different reasons.
