There’s no fun in being strait-laced and this season saw the catwalk awash with a host of lovely loopy lines printed and swirled in dizzying directions. Leading the fash pack, models at Proenza Schouler’s autumn/winter 2017 show were sent down the runway in modern monochrome mesh-print designs, which have inspired a bevy of gorgeous out-there home accessories. Opt for William Yeoward’s Keste mirror to put the cool back into being square or take a more nonchalant approach with Donna Wilson’s scribble-emblazoned Blah Blah mini tray. The bottom line? HAPPY FEET No patch will be devoid of pattern or print if Romo has its way. Teaming up with renowned Belgian carpet maker Louis De Poortere, the fabric house has launched its first-ever collection of floor coverings, scaling up new and existing patterns into a diverse range of flat-woven chenilles and hand-tufted wool designs. Emily Mould, creative director of Romo, tells us to expect a diverse range with ‘flora and fauna alongside brush-strokes and geometrics reminiscent of traditional tiles,’ which sounds like just the thing to brighten up the new year and induce a pattern high post-Chrimbo. British-born, Amsterdam-based Kate Hume came to the interiors world via high fashion – living and working in both London and New York as a soughtafter stylist for luxury emporiums Browns and Bergdorf Goodman. She forged an international reputation in the design world for her glassware and furniture collections before turning her hand to interiors, setting up her own studio in 1998. Since then, she has designed residences from London to Moscow, including apartments in the recently finished Herzog & de Meuron-designed Elbphilharmonie building in Hamburg. Oil-free pistou with pasta Serves 4 Cook the pasta according to the packet instructions in plenty of boiling water. Bring another pan of water to the boil and cook the French beans for 7-8 minutes, with the lid on. Add the broccoli after 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside. Meanwhile, make the pistou. Put the basil, avocado, garlic, lemon juice and 1tsp salt in a blender or food processor and add about 60ml of water. Blitz until smooth. Add some more water, 1tbsp at a time, if needed. Drain the pasta and reserve 2tbsp of the cooking water. Combine the pasta with the vegetables, pistou and reserved cooking water (to make the pasta creamier) and mix to evenly coat. Why use one slab of strong colour when you can use two? This season, designers have taken colour blocking to new levels by embracing two-tone palettes. On the Mulberry catwalk, it was all about the clashing separates, but on the home front, things are more tonal (and much easier to live with). From Made.com to Atkin & Thyme, furniture comes in coordinating stripes, while accessories temper bold colours with calming neutrals to make the most of both the pattern and the shade. Even eyewear gets a look-in, with shots of colour adding interest to spectacles. However you work it, this is not one for half measures……
