If you, like me, were born between 1965 and 1980, or thereabouts, you’re a Generation Xer, and the first of our generation will soon reach the early retirement age of 55.
Graeme Codrington, a recognised world expert on generational theory, describes us as the “sandwich generation”. Some of us are children of divorce, born and raised in an era of change, used the first cellular phones and were the first generation to surf the Net. Many of us are now home-owners with children, also looking after elderly parents, and in influential positions in the workplace. We are juggling retirement savings with bond repayments, creditcard debt, school fees and frailcare.
