Do you have a favourite quilt block or quilting technique? I’m a huge Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) fan! At first, I didn’t get it at all and it seemed like a right faff with all the pieces but the finishing result makes it worthwhile. I love how you can use FPP to make really graphic or artistic pieces. Your work evolved from painting, jewellery making and then photography, to studio art quilts. What drew you into the world of quilting and encouraged you to take that leap? My plunge into making quilts as art was not linear, or a natural step from my other creative endeavours. In reality, I was totally unaware of art quilts when I began quilting! BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO: HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES Half-square Triangles are one of the most used basics of quilting and they also happen to be one of Paula’s favourites! Half-square Triangles (also known as HSTs) are incredibly versatile units that can come together to create a huge variety of different blocks and shapes. There are a few different ways of making them that can speed up the process and, importantly, reduce fabric usage. Paula will walk you through the three main methods and show you how to trim to size.
