We'd love to hear the story behind how you first got into patchwork and quilting! I actually started quilting when I was 18, after one of my best friends asked if I wanted to make quilts for our freshman year dorm rooms. We spent the summer before we went off to college each making our own quilts for the first time! After that first quilt, I was hooked and bought my own machine shortly after starting college. How would you describe your signature style? I would say my style is mid-century modern, mixed with some influences from nature. Earthy colours and warm-toned solids feature heavily in your work. Strip piecing is one of our favourite methods for creating identical units quickly and accurately. Our handy 45-degree Diamond Ruler will help make sure your strips are all cut at the perfect angle! Cut strips which slant to either the left or the right and mix and match to make lots of designs. Use strips that have all been cut in one direction for Lone Stars and 45-degree Diamonds. Mix right and left slanting strips for chevron and zig-zag designs. 1 First, piece together strips of your desired width to make a strip-pieced unit. Use four 1½in strips of fabric to create even stripes. These will line up perfectly with the 1in guide marks on the ruler once sewn together. You could also use a pair of 2½in strips. In…

Cushions are great projects to practice your quilting skills and a fancy finish to the edges can add some fun extra detail. This month, Paula shows you three different options for finishing your cushions. HOW TO FINISH A CUSHION ADDING BINDING TO A CUSHION 1 Square off your cushion top to the correct size. To prepare the envelope backs, cut fabric pieces that are the same width as the cushion and half the height, plus 4in. If you prefer a larger overlap, then cut the height as half, plus 6in. 2 Take one backing piece and press under ½in along one long edge. Press under ½in again to enclose the raw edge.
