There’s a coffee mug I see for sale that says: I quilt so I don’t kill people. And although I do read and watch an awful lot of crime fiction, I have no plans to follow through, and perhaps that is because I quilt.
It all sounds very dramatic, but the fact that I can take time to process my own thoughts, while looking busy, so not being interrupted has its benefits. Taking up a needle and thread, be that in your hand or via the sewing machine focuses you on that action, and as you become absorbed in that so your mind can wander to deal with any chaos or distractions that might be going on around you.
