Marlin magazine is an international billfishing magazine that gives you updates on the world's hottest billfishing destinations, insider tips on live-baiting and trolling, glimpses of people influencing the sport and reviews on the latest equipment.
Just like the billfish we chase, anglers are creatures of habit. We follow the same general patterns year after year: We may head to Costa Rica or Guatemala in the winter to escape the cold and chase sailfish, travel to Cape Verde for giant blue marlin in the spring and early summer, and journey to the Great Barrier Reef in the fall to tackle monster black marlin on heavy tackle. I could go on and on about the consistent hot spots around the globe that anglers venture to in their pursuit of billfish. Yet one thing I feel that we often overlook is how fortunate we are to have several world-class fisheries right here in the United States — ones that don’t require multiple flights, foreign languages or navigation through…
editor@marlinmag.com UPHOLDING THE STANDARD My father, Bill McLellan, was actually the founder of Marlin. I loved viewing your website today and seeing the high standards that the magazine still upholds. First class! Thanks for keeping my dad’s dream alive. Lisa McLellan Via Facebook CHANGING OF THE GUARD With the retirement of Dave Ferrell and Capt. Peter B. Wright, the “changing of the guard” at Marlin seems complete. Each made it a premier fishing journal and the Marlin University experience truly unforgettable. I wish both tight lines and fair winds. Good deckhands are a rare breed: part fish hawk, part showman, and a critical part of any sport-fishing operation. It’s a high-profile job that often includes traveling to the world’s best fishing destinations, but dig a little deeper and you will find a different reality. Professional mate Johnny Fuentes takes us on a guided tour of his world. The 24-year-old Fuentes grew up in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he earned his first job fishing with Capt. Glenn Cameron, working as a tower spotter aboard Floridian in local sailfish tournaments. Through hard work and dedication, Fuentes was able to parlay that position into a full-time job on J-Hook under Capt. Michael Dewey Price. He has now been working aboard Shoe, a 62-foot Spencer captained by Devin Silas, for four seasons. With…
