A ship, the Eaubonne, has been placed in quarantine in the Port of Durban after the death of a crew member and 14 other crew members tested positive for Covid-19. The ship, which berthed in the port on Sunday, had sailed from India on May 18. Transnet said that upon arrival at the harbour, as a standard precautionary measure and as a requirement for a ship’s next port of call, all crew members were required to be tested, and cleared of Covid-19. “Fourteen of the crew members tested positive. Nxele confirmed yesterday that he returned to work on Monday after an arbitrator ruled in his favour, stating that his suspension had contravened the labour laws. Nxele had been embroiled in a labour dispute with the department after he was suspended in 2019 by Correctional Services national commissioner Arthur Fraser. Rhino poaching is on the rise again in South Africa since the government loosened Covid-19 restrictions after a year-long lull, wildlife parks say. The strict limits on travel, including international travel, imposed in March last year had the happy side effect of keeping poachers at bay. MIHLALI BALEKA Former Bafana Bafana international Matthew Booth insists that Benni McCarthy should stay in the PSL for at least another season before accepting the role of being the national team’s new coach. McCarthy is expected to be announced as the new Bafana coach today. His appointment comes after the dismissal of Molefi Ntseki, who failed to guide the team to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a loss against Sudan in March. McCarthy was not the primary target of Safa after they were snubbed by Carlos Queiroz and Pitso Mosimane.
