Tarryn-Leigh Solomons tarryn-leigh.solomons@iinl.co.za Parliament’s joint standing committee on intelligence yesterday interviewed three of the 10 candidates contesting for the position of Inspector-General of Intelligence (IGI).
The term of the chief of the spy watchdog, General Setlhomamaru Dintwe, comes to an end on March 31.
Dintwe is, however, vying to serve a second term. Besides Dintwe, candidates include Reverend Frank Chikane, advocate Jayashree Govender and Nomsa Dlamini. Others include Imtiaz Fazel, Brigadier-General Phumzile Fongoqa, Smanga Jele, Faith Makhobotloane, Mampogoane Nchabeleng and Dr Clarence Tshitereke.
The role of inspector-general includes monitoring intelligence and counter- intelligence activities of the State Security Agency and the Intelligence Divisions of SAPS and SANDF.
