The DA in eThekwini expresses serious concern over the poor implementation of the municipality’s Special Debt Relief Programme, which officially came into effect on 1 November 2025.
Despite repeated assurances from municipal officials that all systems, staff, and platforms were ready for a smooth rollout, oversight conducted by the DA at various Sizakala Centres on Monday, November 3, revealed a very different reality.
Staff members at several service centres reported that they were only informed of the programme late on Friday, 31 October 31, and had not received any training, guidance, or procedural documentation. Many were uncertain about the policy’s application, including the calculation of water loss compensation and the steps required to assist residents and businesses effectively.
