AMETHYST UPDATES Although amethyst was already in the last development version, there have been some updates. Certain amethyst blocks – called budding amethyst blocks – now have a chance to grow amethyst buds, and those buds will eventually grow into clusters. These clusters can then be broken into shards, used to craft spyglasses, tinted glass and amethyst blocks. GLOWING ITEMS The new glow squid mob (imported from Minecraft Earth!) drops glow ink sacs when killed. These sacs can be used to craft glow item frames, which illuminate an item placed inside. Signs can be tinted with glow ink sacs to make their text glow, and you can remove the effect by using a normal ink sac instead. CARTOGRAPHY TABLE ABOUT CARTOGRAPHY TABLES Cartography tables are the workstation block for cartographers – the map makers of Minecraft! If you find one in a village, it means a cartographer is around, and they’ll be able to sell you items like maps, banners, item frames and – most excitingly – explorer maps! Cartography tables don’t spawn in every village, but it’s easy to recognise them if you know how: ■ In PLAINS villages, the cartographer’s house has two flower boxes outside, with yellow and white carpet inside. ■ In DESERT villages, the cartographer’s house has two small towers, with a cactus flower pot outside and steps leading up the side. ■ In SNOWY villages, the cartographer has a wooden house with a double-peaked roof and a door set back into…

10 ICE HOCKEY STADIUM We’ve never been to an American ice hockey stadium before, but we we’ve certainly got a taste of the huge arenas in the USA from this gigantic build! There’s no ice hockey to watch sadly, but the build does have two different arenas, as well as a training area. 1 Soul fire causes double the damage of normal fire – two points (one heart) for every second you’re on fire! This applies to any soul fire source that might set you alight, including soul campfires. 2 Crying obsidian gives offa light level of 10, and has the highest blast resistance of any light source. 3 Wearing a suit of gold armour will stop piglins from becoming hostile to you - at least most of the time! Hunger is a pretty simple part of the Minecraft game. When your hunger bar is empty you lose health, and when it’s full you gain health. But that’s not all that’s going on. In the background, there’s a second, secret hunger bar: the saturation bar. WHAT IS SATURATION? In a nutshell, saturation tells you how long you have to wait between eating food and being hungry again – so basically how long after you eat a piece of food your hunger bar will start to deplete. As well as replenishing your hunger bar, every piece of food you eat restores a bit of saturation. Knowing how to manage this will mean you can eat less and stay healthy longer, resulting in fewer breaks for food, and more time for fighting,…

BUILD SPECS Have you ever needed to craft a turtle helmet but found yourself severely lacking in turtle scutes? That’s not surprising as they only drop when a baby turtle grows into an adult turtle, which happens very rarely. If you want to farm scutes, why not build a turtle sanctuary? PILLAGER RAIDS We've all fought pillagers, usually around their own outposts or, occasionally, as a patrolling group. But what happens when the pillagers bring the fight to you? That's a raid, and when one starts, believe us, you'll know about it! TRIGGERIOG A RAID If you kill an illager captain - that is, the illager carrying the big illager banner - you'll receive the Bad Omen status effect. Each time you kill an illager captain, you get another level of the effect applied, up to a maximum of six levels. ABOUT POTATOES Potatoes a rea food item that can be collected, looted or grown, then used by the player as food or for crafting other food recipes. They’re one of the most versatile foods in the game! Eating a normal raw potato will restore one point of health and 0.6 points of saturation. Potatoes can be fed to pigs to put them in breeding mode, and if a villager carries potatoes they’ll also count towards their willingness to breed – a villager can carry up to 12 potatoes before they go into breeding mode. Dear Ask Us Anything, I play Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.16 on a Kindle Fire. I've been playing it for about a whole year! WALLS The first thing you need to do is secure a village, and that means putting a wall around it. Building a defensive wall is simple – it needs to be about three blocks high (so skeletons can’t shoot over it!) and encompass the entire village. This can take a LONG time, so don’t be afraid to build it in small bursts! Our preferred material is stone bricks, because they’re sturdy and look good, plus you can use the mossy and cracked variants to mix things up a little. Virtually any material is fine, though, as long as you’re consistent. If you’re feeling REALLY fancy, why not add a walkway and battlements?
