The Mini celebrated its 40th birthday in 1999, and John Cooper Garages marked the occasion with a trio of official special editions – the Cooper S Works, the Cooper S Sport 5 (showcased on this page in issue 332), and this one – the Cooper S Touring. These cars were built with official backing from Rover, but sold exclusively through John Cooper Garages, and the spec of the S Touring was attractive: starting with Cooper’s 86bhp engine upgrade, the team then added uprated suspension, 165-section tyres to fill out the optional Sportspack arches, and unique S Touring decals.
