If you fancy trying some unusual ACW scenarios, this should be of considerable interest. It describes a wide variety of Union amphibious operations, including assaults on major and secondary forts, riverine expeditions, raids to interdict Confederate supply lines, and so on. Initial operations were joint army/navy ventures, but then fell largely under the Army’s direction, who formed a three-brigade Coast Division supported by highly innovative boat designs and specialist cannon (all described in the text). One formation, intended to counter the guerrilla-infested riverbanks, comprised six companies of mounted infantry, four of cavalry, and an artillery battery, offloaded by ramps that swung out from ship to shore.
