MATERIALS ■ Yarn in bright rainbow colours ■ Small pompom maker ■ Scissors ■ Cotton throw ■ Pins ■ Needle and thread 1 Use the pompom maker to create lots of small pompoms from yarn in bright, rainbow colours. 2 Slightly flatten the pompoms, and trim any loose ends with scissors. 3 Lay the throw out on your work surface or bed, and smooth out any creases or folds. Position the pompoms in rows on the throw and use pins to hold them in place. 4 Using a needle and thread, neatly sew each pompom to the throw, removing the pins as you go. EQUIPMENT: Jug | Bottle with foaming pump | Tbsp measuring set INGREDIENTS: 3 tbsp of natural castile soap | 1 cup water | 1 tsp of sweet almond oil | 15 drops of orange essential oil | 5 drops of geranium essential oil 1 To make distilled water, simply bring a cup of water to a rolling boil and keep it boiling for a minute or so. MATERIALS ■ Lampshade (we got ours in a charity shop) ■ 1.8m light cotton fabric ■ Tape maker kit ■ Glue gun ■ Iron ■ Dressmaking scissors ■ Metal ruler 1 Begin by taking the fabric and wrapping it around the shade to give a rough idea of sizing and how many strips you will need to cut. Add slightly more than you think you need as the strips will overlap. 2 Cut the strips slightly longer than the shade using a metal ruler and dressmaking scissors. My daughter and I have been doing some simple weaving projects together. They’re a great way to use up scrap yarn, especially hand-dyed yarn that produces very pretty effects when weaving. We use a hand-held Loome tool and she has learned to add the warp thread herself, which means we can have a quiet half an hour crafting together while she weaves and I knit! I do have a larger scale weaving project in rainbow colours as well that's almost finished; I enjoy choosing chunky yarn and roving to add texture to it. It’s exciting to learn something new – I plan to learn punch needling and macramé soon. I'm conscious that I have a lot of projects to complete, so I’m going to try and finish some older needlecraft…
