The success of Netflix’s latest hit, The Queen’s Gambit, has made chess cool again. The drama, which follows orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy, pictured), has become the streaming group’s most watched scripted series to date. In the three weeks after its premier, chess set sales rose 87% in the US, while chess book sales surged by 603%, says Todd Spangler on Variety.
