WRAP the fiberglass, or sheetmetal, as tightly as possible around the chassis. Or go for the function-over-form wedge. That’s pretty much been the design philosophy at Lotus’ Hethel, England, headquarters for decades. Now Group Lotus has hired Donato Coco from Ferrari to be its new director of design. Perhaps that means a bit more voluptuousness in future Lotuses?
Coco was Ferrari’s director of design and development in his native Italy, where he worked on the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Spider 16M, Ferrari California, 599XX, and F458 Italia. Before that, Coco worked for Citroen, where he was responsible for the Xsara, Picasso, C3 and C3 Pluriel, C2, C1, ZX Paris Dakar, and Xsara WRC.
