ARMAND PEUGEOT convinced his brothers to expand their business from metallurgy to bicycles in 1882. The Peugeot Grand-bi was a traditional Penny Farthing bicycle with its pedals powering the much larger front wheel. The family built its first car in 1891, and Armand broke from the family in 1896 to form what became the current automaker. Peugeot sold off its bike business in the 1960s, but retained rights to the trademark and recently got back into the business.
