America’s popular family sedan featured a significant redesign for ’96, so for a long-term test, we ordered a well-equipped LX model with the 3.0-liter/200-horse DOHC V-6 engine. The $20,980 base price included air conditioning, power windowsAocks/mirrors, a four-speed automatic transmission, a rear defroster, a power driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, rear-seat ventilation ducts, and an air filtration system. For $2615, Preferred Equipment Package 210A added speed control, anti-lock brakes, keyless entry, air conditioning, chrome wheels, and floormats. We also added leather upholstery ($990) and a six-disc CD changer ($595). With final costs and package discounts, our Taurus stickered at $25,130.
