A FEW months ago, the world watched aghast as the CEOs of Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors sat before Congress, apologized for their missteps, and begged for money in order to stay in business. It was a much different environment in the 1950s, but in good times or bad, there are always new cars. In this issue, we cover 50 of them, many of which will have been revealed at recent international auto shows. Most manufacturers participate in these shows, but eight times from 1949 through 1961, General Motors produced its own.
