The Holocaust Museum & Education Center of Southwest Florida is a big step closer to moving into a new building, thanks to a $1 million contribution from Naples resident Janet Guttman Cohen. It’s the largest donation the museum has ever received, and the building will be named in honor of Cohen and her late husband, Harvey. “The lessons of the Holocaust must never be forgotten,” Cohen said in a statement, noting the gift was inspired in part by the importance of teaching younger generations about the dangers of prejudice. The museum’s new home, located on U.S. 41 and Imperial Golf Course Boulevard, spans 6,000 square feet and will house exhibits, a classroom, a library, and offices. Close proximity to the beach and thick tropical foliage made this two-story Old Naples home seem ultra-desirable. But inside, the four-bedroom, Mediterranean-style property was dark and dreary. In an effort to spruce things up, the homeowners commissioned Sarah Anderson, principal interior designer at Designing Naples, to replace some of the furniture and draperies. Anderson, however, saw the potential to turn the 4,000-square-foot residence into a bright and airy haven. “The dominoes started falling when the general contractor brought [us] the clients’ tea-colored kitchen cabinets so we could paint the woodwork white,” she says. “After that, we gutted the house down to the studs.” No longer constrained by dark wood, Anderson selected a color palette as brilliant as Southwest Florida’s natural outdoor wonders, incorporating splashes of coral, cobalt blue, lime, hibiscus…

For those who want to tempt their taste buds and explore unfamiliar waters, here’s a trio of delicious lesser-known fish—and where to enjoy them. Greatest achievement: Immigrating to the U.S. and running a shop in an American mall for seven years to get my green card. Mally Khorasantchi describes her work as large-scale contemporary art inspired by nature. A Naples resident for more than 25 years, the German-born artist became an American citizen in 2006. Her upcoming solo shows include one at Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York in September, and another at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2019. Bold Asian spices fuse with clean, vibrant summer flavors in the yellowfin tuna with soba noodle stir-fry at Edgewater Beach Hotel’s Coast restaurant in Naples. To create this dish, executive chef Gerardo Cruz first combines Napa cabbage, carrots, and squash in a mixture of ginger oil and fresh ginger; the buckwheat soba noodles are sautéed separately.
