Princess Madeleine of Sweden stepped in to serve as regent for the first time on behalf of her father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, while His Majesty was on his recent well-deserved break.
The King flew to Brazil with his wife, Queen Silvia, and their two other children – his heir, Crown Princess Victoria, and Prince Carl Philip – and their families, leaving youngest daughter Madeleine as head of state.
Eighth in line to the throne, the 42-year-old Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland is the youngest of Carl Gustaf and Silvia’s children, and for the first week of the royal trip abroad she served as regent of Sweden, the Palace confirmed.
